SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean steelmaker POSCO has joined hands with KT Corp., a major telecommunications firm, to promote smart green cities.
The two companies, together with Mystech Co., a local company that specializes in the production of street facilities such as street lamps, signed a business cooperation agreement on Wednesday.
Under terms of the agreement, the three parties will propose the installation of smart street facilities to municipal governments, while forming a task force to carry out joint marketing.
The smart street facility is an eco-friendly facility featuring a combination of POSCO’s streel technology with KT’s Internet of Things (IoT) expertise and Mystech’s production techniques.
The smart street facility consists of a water supply block that can provide moisture to street trees by storing rainfall and a protection guard that prevents the uplifting of the roots.
An IoT sensor installed in the water supply block can calculate when water is needed by monitoring the state of street trees and soil on a real time basis.
POSCO noted that if this facility is put into use, power and communication lines installed above the ground and complex underground pipelines can be moved underground, improving the aesthetics of cities.
