SEOUL, March 22 (Korea Bizwire) – Prosecutors said Wednesday they are considering whether to seek an arrest for former President Park Geun-hye after a marathon session of questioning over a string of corruption allegations that led to her removal from office.
Park returned home early in the morning after a 21-hour interrogation at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office as she faces allegations of bribery, abuse of power, coercion and leaking government secrets.
”We are reviewing the interrogation report and evidence,” a senior prosecution official said when asked about whether they would request an arrest warrant. “We will make a decision based on the law and principle after a thorough review.”
Park is known to have denied all charges, though prosecutors did not confirm her stance. She declined to comment as she left the prosecutionShe faces bribery charges in connection with an allegation that local business groups made huge donations to two nonprofit foundations, allegedly controlled by Park’s friend Choi Soon-sil, in return for business favors.
It was the first time that Park underwent direct investigation since the scandal broke in late October. A number of her former aides were arrested for their involvement.
The Constitutional Court’s decision to oust her on March 10 stripped her of immunity from criminal prosecution.
Park is the country’s fourth former president to undergo questioning over criminal allegations, following Roh Tae-woo, Chun Doo-hwan and the late Roh Moo-hyun.’
