SEJONG, Sept. 14 (Korea Bizwire) – Young promising artists from the countries to participate in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games will take part in joint cultural activities under an artist-in-residence program in the alpine town later this week, the event’s organizer said Thursday.

Artist-in-residence programs offer artists and other creative professionals to stay and work temporarily together in a specific place.

Dubbed ‘Deep in the Mountains,’ the PyeongChang artist-in-residence program will kick off Friday for a 40-day run until Oct. 24, with 23 musicians, dancers and visual artists from 16 nations to join,” the organizer said.

The venue for the program is the Potato Blossom Studio, a complex cultural facility that has been built by remodeling a closed school in a mountain village in the area, some 180 kilometers east of Seoul.

The artists will work while getting inspiration from nature and cultural assets in the region, and hold an exhibition of their collaborations after the event is over, it said.

The musicians include Ehud Ettun of Israel, Choi Hye-won of South Korea, Munkjin Purevkhuu of Mongolia, Patrico Crom of Argentina and Veronica Tollenaar of the Netherlands.

Among the dancers are Bartek Woszczynski of Poland, Ingrid Rosbrog of Sweden, Irina Demina of Russia and Yong Sean Liu of Vietnam.

The visual artists include Juri Suzuki of Japan, Hiram Wong of Hong Kong, Igor Vidor of Brazil and Michael Schonberg of Germany.

The culture ministry and Arts Council Korea co-organized the program as part of the Games’ cultural events.
