SEOUL, Feb. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — Retro fever is sweeping the Korean box office. Following the smash-hit Japanese animation “Slam Dunk,” the remastered version of the movie “Titanic” is also enjoying strong popularity.
“The First Slam Dunk,” an animated Japanese film based on popular comics from the 1990s, had attracted close to 3 million viewers as of Tuesday.
According to multiplex cinema chain CGV, 35.4 percent of the viewers were in their 30s, while 28.6 percent were in their 40s.
Adding more fuel to the retro fever, the remastered version of James Cameron’s “Titanic” ranked second at the box office, attracting 278,000 viewers one week after opening.
Classifying viewers by age, the share of teenagers and those in their 20s reached 52.5 percent despite the fact that the original version was released in 1998.
This was quite a contrast to ”Avatar: The Way of Water,” for which the share of teenage viewers was low at 2.6 percent.
