SEOUL, Aug. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — The defense ministry plans to expand the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to assist military commanders’ decision-making in combat situations and support defense-related policymaking, officials said Friday.
The plan was discussed at a meeting, chaired by Defense Vice Minister Lee Doo-hee, over the use of AI technology in the defense sector as the country seeks to build an AI-powered military.
The ministry said it aims to build an AI-based system to help commanding officers’ decision-making during combat situations and a defense minister’s policy decisions over the long term.
South Korea is seeking to use AI technology in the defense sector in an effort to make the military slimmer but smarter based on cutting-edge technologies.
