SEOUL, Dec. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – It’s akin to being trapped in an icy expanse.
Seoul experienced the fiercest cold spell of the winter on Thursday, with temperatures dropping to minus 14 degrees Celsius in the morning. As the city received its first cold wave warning of the season on December 21, office workers geared up for the frigid day, donning thick padded jumpers, scarves, and gloves.
By 8 a.m., Hyangrobong recorded the lowest temperature at minus 25.3 degrees, with a bone-chilling wind chill of minus 37.7 degrees. On last Sunday, the lowest temperature among the 640 automatic weather station (AWS) locations was also at Hyangrobong on the border of Goseong and Inje in Gangwon Province, where the lowest temperature was minus 24.2 degrees Celsius.
In Seoul, the temperature plummeted to minus 14.4 degrees, accompanied by a wind chill of minus 22.3 degrees this morning, marking one of the most intense cold waves this winter.
The icy grip is expected to persist until the morning of the 23rd.
Even if temperatures rise and return to normal on December 23, the respite will be brief, given that this period represents the coldest phase of the year.
