SEOUL, Feb. 6 (Korea Bizwire) — The designers of new buildings in major cities of South Korea are seeking to be prepared for the advent of urban air mobility (UAM), autonomous driving and robots.
Last week, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport inaugurated a public-private alliance called Smart Plus Building Alliance.
The government plans to get ready for the commercialization of UAM services, starting from the architectural environment. To this end, the ministry created the alliance.
The efficient operation of UAM services requires the installation of a vertiport, a space for aircraft to take off and land within buildings. This requires a change in building structure and function.
The alliance will be co-chaired by Land Minister Won Hee-ryong and Prof. Ha Hun-koo, a co-head of the Society of Logistics Science and Technology.
A string of private companies such as Naver, LG Electronics, Hyundai Motor, Woowa Brothers and SOCAR will take part in the alliance, in addition to public entities such as the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Korean Broadcasting System and the Korea Land & Housing Corp.
A group of academic entities such as the Architecture & Urban Research Institute, the Korea Institute of Registered Architects and the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement will also participate in the alliance.
