SEOUL, Dec. 7 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Environment said Sunday it plans to work with 17 cities and provinces to designate 36 locations across the country as zones for intensive care against fine dust, to protect vulnerable groups.
Regions where multiple sources of emission exist, such as factories or heavy traffic, alongside schools, hospitals, or other facilities exposed to the risk of fine dust will be designated as intensive care zones.
The government will offer 3 billion won (US$2.7 million) in subsidies to support the project, and prioritize funding for ongoing fine dust reduction programs.
The project will involve installing air curtains at the entrance to all facilities vulnerable to fine dust, while setting up air purifiers to ensure better indoor atmosphere.
The project will also set up Internet of Things (IoT)-based fine dust measuring devices, fine dust meters, and other devices to offer more information to vulnerable groups.
Additional sprinkler trucks and street sweepers will be introduced, along with stricter enforcement of emissions regulations.
