SEOUL, Nov. 28 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea said Sunday it would contribute US$1 million to help Libya, which is suffering from a years-long civil war.

Seoul plans to deliver the donation through the Libya stabilization fund created in April under a global initiative, according to the foreign ministry.

Eleven other nations have so far pledged around $30 million.

With the contribution, South Korea will serve as a board member of the fund, actively joining the international community’s efforts in humanitarian assistance for the North African nation.

“As a responsible middle power of the international community, our government has pushed for humanitarian diplomacy as its signature brand to deal with conflicts, natural disasters and humanitarian crises,” the ministry said in a statement. “The contribution this time is expected to aid in Libya’s achievement of unity and stabilization at an early date.”
