S. Korea, Vietnam Agree to Expand Educational Cooperation

HANOI, Dec. 14 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea and Vietnam agreed Thursday to expand educational cooperation and exchanges, especially in language learning, according to Seoul officials.

Deputy Prime Minister Kim Sang-kon, who also serves as education minister, met with his Vietnamese counterpart Vu Duc Dam in Hanoi.

Kim requested Vietnam take measures to expand Korean language education, such as designating it as a first foreign language, including it among college entrance exam subjects, and opening Korean language courses at universities.

Kim also promised to support Vietnamese learning at Korean universities.

Dam told Kim that he will positively consider the proposals, according to Korean officials .

Working-level officials from the two countries will hold meetings to implement cooperative projects, they said.
