SEOUL, Oct. 24 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s industry ministry said Tuesday it has discussed measures to expand cooperation in trade, carbon neutrality and other areas with Vietnam.

First Vice Industry Minister Jang Young-jin met Tran Tuan Anh, who heads the Central Economic Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to share ideas on ways to expand bilateral trade and investment, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

During the meeting, Jang highlighted that Vietnam currently stands as the top investment destination in Southeast Asia and that South Korean firms can potentially further contribute to its economic growth.

The first vice minister also asked Vietnam to collaborate in resolving issues faced by South Korean companies, particularly concerning delays in obtaining authorization for the establishment of financial firms.

The Vietnamese official responded that his government will examine any potential obstacles that South Korean companies might encounter while operating in the Southeast Asian country.

The two countries also shared a consensus that they can collaborate in the global efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions while harnessing clean energy sources, including hydrogen, as they are both making efforts to go carbon neutral by 2050.

Jang asked for Vietnam’s support for South Korea’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo in the southeastern city of Busan as well.
