SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s foreign minister asked the U.N. refugee agency on Tuesday to make efforts to protect and support North Korean defectors living overseas, her office in Seoul has said.
Kang Kyung-wha earlier held a luncheon meeting in Seoul with Filippo Grandi, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, according to the ministry.
During the meeting, Kang asked for “special” interest in and support for North Korean defectors who live overseas, the ministry said. She also praised the U.N. agency for its role in protecting refugees and vowed to continue cooperation with it.
Grandi hoped that South Korea and the U.N. agency would strengthen their cooperation on helping refugees and resolving relevant issues, the ministry said.
