SEOUL, May 25 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. said Tuesday that it has added a high capacity version to its solid state drive (SDD) lineup to target the international market.
The new SSD version with 500 gigabytes of storage will lead the 750 EVO lineup consisting of editions with capacities of 120 GB and 250 GB launched last year, Samsung Electronics said.
An SSD is a data storage device made with a NAND flash memory chip that saves data without requiring power and is more durable and faster than a hard disk drive.
The new model will be launched in 50 countries, including South Korea, the United States, China and Japan, the company said.
“Samsung Electronics expanded the lineup to provide a reasonable solution to consumers who want a high-performance and economical SSD,” the company said.
The new model boasts a data storage and read speed of 540 megabytes and 520 megabytes per second, respectively, allowing users to download 50 movies per day for over 1,000 days in a row.

The new model will be priced at around 200,000 won (US$167), company officials said.
