SEOUL, Jul. 10 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung C&T Corporation, a major player in South Korea’s construction industry, is set to revolutionize home automation by introducing a service that controls various Internet of Things (IoT) devices from different brands through its proprietary home platform application, Homeniq.

The construction division of Samsung C&T announced on July 9 that it would sign a memorandum of understanding with Aqara Life, an IoT specialist, at the Raemian Gallery in Songpa-gu, Seoul. This partnership aims to promote the integration of smart home devices based on the Matter protocol.

Matter is a global standard technology that allows for the interconnection and integration of smart home devices from various brands under a single platform. Aqara Life, having obtained Matter certification, supplies a range of smart home products including smart hubs, motorized curtains, and lighting systems, along with a platform to connect these devices.

Historically, IoT services in homes began with built-in device control through wall pads and gradually evolved into intelligent home services offering features like unified lighting control and voice recognition. However, the lack of standardization across brands often resulted in compatibility issues between devices and platforms.

With this new Matter-based agreement, Samsung C&T has laid the groundwork to offer a service where residents can directly control home appliances and IoT devices throughout their homes—regardless of brand—using just the Homeniq application.

The company plans to install Matter-based smart home devices in new residential complexes and set up systems like smart hubs in existing communities to enable platform integration. This will allow all residents using Homeniq to easily access integrated control services.

Samsung C&T also intends to introduce personalized services that leverage artificial intelligence to recognize users’ lifestyle patterns and automatically control various devices such as motorized curtains, lighting, and air conditioning at appropriate times.

Kim Myung-seok, Vice President and Head of Housing Business Division at Samsung C&T, emphasized the significance of being the first construction company to support Matter-based smart home devices through an apartment application. “We will continue to strive for new experiences that enhance convenience for residents and bring innovation to daily life,” he stated.

Samsung C&T’s home platform, Homeniq, has been integrated into a total of 16 residential complexes so far, including the upcoming Raemian One Pentas, with units scheduled to go on sale at the end of this month.
