SEOUL, Oct. 31 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics said Friday that it is in advanced talks with Nvidia Corp. to supply next-generation high-bandwidth memory chips, deepening ties with the U.S. semiconductor giant as both companies race to expand their foothold in artificial intelligence.

The announcement followed Nvidia’s disclosure that it would supply its latest Blackwell graphics processing units, or GPUs, to several South Korean companies, including Samsung. The move was revealed on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Summit in Gyeongju, about 275 kilometers southeast of Seoul.

“In addition to our ongoing collaborations, Samsung and Nvidia are also working together on HBM4,” Samsung said in a statement, referring to the newest generation of high-bandwidth memory. “With its exceptional data throughput and energy efficiency, Samsung’s advanced HBM solutions will help accelerate future AI applications and form a crucial foundation for manufacturing infrastructure powered by these technologies.”

HBM chips are critical for training and operating AI systems, dramatically increasing data-processing speeds in data centers. Demand for the technology has surged as global companies compete to expand their computing power.

Samsung said it will continue supplying a range of next-generation memory products, including HBM, GDDR and SOCAMM, as well as advanced foundry services for Nvidia. The company added that it plans to construct a new AI-driven “factory of the future” that will integrate Nvidia’s technology into its production ecosystem.

By deploying more than 50,000 Nvidia GPUs, Samsung said, artificial intelligence will be embedded throughout its manufacturing network — from semiconductor design and fabrication to mobile device production and robotics.

“The Samsung AI Factory goes beyond traditional automation,” the company said. “It will serve as an intelligent manufacturing platform capable of analyzing and connecting vast amounts of data generated across every stage of production.”

Samsung also said it is working with Nvidia to advance “physical AI” applications such as intelligent robotics, combining real-world robot data with Nvidia’s virtual simulation tools to create machines capable of understanding their environments and acting autonomously.
