SEOUL, July 9 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics Co. on Wednesday unveiled its latest generation foldable smartphones and the highly anticipated ring-type wearable, featuring thinner and lighter designs and advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

At the summer edition of Galaxy Unpacked held at Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, Samsung Electronics showed off the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch 7 were also among the headliners.

The new foldable products will feature advanced hardware designs, with a linear, solid finish, making them the thinnest and lightest Z series smartphones ever.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6, that opens and closes like a book, has a 6.3-inch external display and a 7.6-inch inner display. Its external display is slightly wider than that of its predecessor.

It is 5.6 millimeters thick when open and 12.1 mm when closed. The previous model was 6.1 mm and 13.4 mm, respectively. It weighs 239 grams, compared to the 253 grams of the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

The clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 6′s main and sub-screens have the same spec as its predecessor, marking 6.7 inches and 3.4 inches in size.

It became thinner, measuring 6.9 mm when open and 14.9 mm when closed, while the Galaxy Z Flip 5 featured 5.9 mm and 15.1 mm, respectively. Its weight remains at 187 grams.

Both models feature improved durability, thanks to a double-rail hinge design that better withstands impacts, alongside the latest Gorilla Glass and Armor Aluminum frames on both the front and inner screens.

The new Galaxy Z series smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, optimizing AI processing and enhancing general functions, including graphics performance.

They also incorporate advanced on-device AI functions first seen in the Galaxy S24 smartphones released earlier this year.

A notable AI feature is the “Live Translate” function, which supports real-time translation during phone calls and audio calls on messenger apps, such as KakaoTalk, Line, WhatsApp and Facebook. Users can interact with the translated text simultaneously on both the main and cover screens.

Samsung Electronics also introduced the Galaxy Ring, a new wearable that features the company’s most advanced sensor technology. The ring-type wearable device was first teased at the company’s winter edition of the Galaxy Unpacked event in January.

It is the smallest and most compact device in the Galaxy lineup, designed for comfortable, extended wear, helping users check their health condition around the clock.

Galaxy Ring is water resistant up to 10 ATM, or 100 meters, and the battery lasts up to seven days.

It collects various types of health data, including sleeping patterns, and supports personalized health management, incorporating Samsung Health, the company’s health tracking platform that remains available to all users, free of charge.
