SEOUL, Jun. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics has elongated the company’s parental leave period to two years from the current one year, and introduced a leave of absence system for self-development.
The two measures will take effect on July 1.
The company’s parental leave period was previously up to one year per child.
A Samsung representative said that the company decided to expand the period to support working moms and dads, and raise their job satisfaction.
Samsung employees will also be able to take a leave of up to one year for self-development activities such as language training or traveling.
Any third-year employees can apply for the leave.
Samsung said that the two measures were introduced to improve the lives of employees by giving them chance to balance their work and personal lives.
Samsung Electronics has been implementing various measures to raise work efficiency and creativity among its workers.
The company has recently expanded its employee autonomy with flexible work hours to other departments.
Samsung also allowed its employees to wear shorts on weekends and holidays in summer, for employees who are working on weekends.
Industry representatives are expecting that Samsung will continue to introduce measures which will create a more Silicon Valley-like working environment.
