SEOUL, Jan. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics is expanding its push into home entertainment and education through a new partnership with the iconic guitar maker Fender, unveiling a television-based guitar learning platform designed to make music instruction more immersive and accessible.
The company said on Tuesday that it will launch Fender Play TV, an app developed with Fender, allowing users to learn guitar and other string instruments directly on Samsung smart TVs.
The service aims to move music education beyond the constraints of smartphones and tablets by leveraging large-screen, high-definition displays and built-in sound systems.
The platform was built around a key challenge identified by Fender: roughly 90 percent of beginner guitarists abandon learning early.
To address that dropout rate, Fender Play TV offers step-by-step video lessons tailored for first-time players, covering fundamentals such as holding and tuning a guitar, reading tablature, playing chords, and practicing common riffs.
Users can choose among electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, and ukulele, following structured curricula designed for gradual progression. The app also features a “Jam Mode,” which places learners in a virtual stage environment, encouraging practice through simulated ensemble play.
Founded in 1946, Fender is one of the world’s most influential musical instrument brands, with guitars famously played by artists such as Eric Clapton, Kurt Cobain, and Buddy Holly.
Samsung said the collaboration reflects its broader strategy to turn televisions into interactive lifestyle hubs, extending beyond passive viewing into learning, creativity, and play.
