SEOUL, April 2 (Korea Bizwire) – Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants has now hit safely in four consecutive games, while nearly matching his doubles total from a season ago.
Batting third and playing center field, Lee went 1-for-4 with his third double of the season in a 3-1 win over the Houston Astros at Daikin Park in Houston on Tuesday (local time).
Lee extended his early-season hitting streak to four games, though his batting average dipped from .286 to .278. With three doubles after five games, Lee is just one two-bagger away from matching the total he had in 37 games in an injury-plagued rookie campaign last year.
Lee lined out in the first inning and then grounded out in the third. After flying out in the fifth, Lee led off the top eighth with a double to left-center field. It was the hardest ball Lee has hit this season, with an exit velocity of 104.5 miles per hour.
Lee has now reached base safely in all five games this season, as the Giants improved to 4-1.
Bae Ji-hwan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the only other South Korean on a major league roster at the moment, stayed on the bench as his team lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 7-0.
Bae has only appeared in two of the Pirates’ six games so far this season. He has gone 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
