SEOUL, April 12 (Korea Bizwire) – The city government of Seongnam has received a warm reception for its attention to detail after resident cyclists discovered bicycle rails installed on stepping stones across the local Unjungcheon Stream.
Seongnam residents are responding positively to two new bicycle rails installed along the stream that runs from the Pangyo area all the way to Bundang, not for their scale, but for the resourcefulness shown by the local government.
Some 10 centimeters in width and 20 meters in length, the cycle rails made of steel will allow cyclists to enjoy their ride without their flow interrupted when crossing stepping stones, allowing a rare cycling opportunity to enjoy the scenery of the stream up close.
Seongnam’s small but thoughtful idea went viral on social media some 10 days after the installation work was completed, receiving praise in the form of online comments showering the local government with positive adjectives such as ‘detailed’, ‘considerate’, and ‘thoughtful’.
Yu Sang-cheol, an official at the city government of Seongnam responsible for river management, said, “Although we have many stepping stones along the stream reminiscent of old times, residents with bicycles have not been able to cross them easily.
“Since the warm reception of the bicycle rail, we are considering the expansion of the same facilities on other stepping stones and stairs.”
