SEOUL, Oct. 30 (Korea Bizwire) –The inaugural “hydrogen-powered cleaning vehicle” is set to make its debut in Dongjak-gu, Seoul.

Until this point, hydrogen-powered vehicles were primarily limited to passenger cars, buses, and cargo vehicles. However, this marks the first instance where a specialized hydrogen vehicle is designed for waste collection and transportation purposes.

These innovative hydrogen cleaning vehicles are slated to commence operations in Seoul, Incheon, and the Gyeonggi provinces, starting in November.

As of September 2023, there were a total of 13,938 cleaning vehicles operating nationwide. The Ministry of Environment is committed to further promoting the transition of these vehicles into zero-emission alternatives, including hydrogen and electric vehicles.

Notably, the endorsement of hydrogen garbage trucks for waste collection and transportation is anticipated to address multiple objectives simultaneously, such as environmental conservation, carbon neutrality, and improved air quality.
