SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Fire Academy recently carried out a test to extinguish an electric vehicle (EV) fire using a prototype of a mobile water bath at a parking lot in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.
Compared to ordinary internal combustion engine vehicles, it’s not easy to extinguish EV fires since their batteries take a long time burn completely.
The newly-developed mobile water bath consists of two sheets of waterproof and nonflammable fiber cloths that are fabricated to cover the bottom and side of the vehicle.
With a weight of 30 kilograms, the bath can easily be moved and reused. It took just seven minutes for four firefighters to install the water bath and 15 minutes to fill it with 6,000 liters of water.
However, the bath cannot be used on a sloped area. Another weakness is that it would be difficult to use for large-sized vehicles such as cargo trucks.
