SEOUL, June 17 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Museum of History introduced a remotely controlled robot on Wednesday for remote exhibitions.
The museum’s new robot employs holographic communication technology called telepresence. It can be remotely controlled by computers and mobile devices.
The robot has been used at hospitals and universities in South Korea, but never before at museums or galleries, officials said.
Users can freely control the robot to take a look at various exhibitions via a high-resolution camera, and communicate with a docent via speaker and a microphone.
The museum plans to test run the robot for patients at the Yonsei Cancer Hospital’s education center.
Patients will be able to remotely visit exhibitions and converse with instructors between June 29 and October 12.
