SEOUL, Jul. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — Seoul National University will open a new graduate major in peace and unification studies that specializes in peace, unification, and North Korean society to foster experts that can effectively address unification as well as post-unification outcomes.
The university is planning to create a master’s course on peace and unification studies for the upcoming spring semester in 2020.
“An interdisciplinary approach is essential to solving the complex ties that bind the questions of peace and unification,” said a university official.
“The purpose is to raise professionals in the field of peace and unification to act as the engine of interdisciplinary research.”
The new program will address various theories on peace as well as case studies on the divided Korean peninsula, nuclear development in North Korea, peacebuilding and laying the grounds for reunification.
The new major will include studies on peace, North-South relations, unification, North Korean society, North Korean defectors, and other courses.
The major will be set up as a joint program where more than two departments will participate for interdisciplinary research.
