SEOUL, Jun. 2 (Korea Bizwire) — Taxi companies in Seoul are hoping to change the notorious image of Seoul taxi drivers, as customers will be able to report cabbies’ rude behavior and illegal activities and receive refunds of up to 50,000 won (US$ 44).
The Seoul Taxi Corporate Association said on June 1 that 28 taxi companies in Seoul will implement the refund system over the next three months, and the program will be expanded to all taxi companies operating in Seoul in September.
Customers can report rude drivers, unreasonable fares, getting dropped off before the destination and having shared the taxi against his/her will to the association. After verification, customers will receive a refund to their accounts.
Refusing to accept passengers and unspecified reports are not subject to refunds.
A printed guide about the refund system will be affixed in taxis, while taxi drivers will also be notified by their companies. Daehan Taxi, Samhwa Taxi and OK Taxi already have similar policies.
Oh Gwang-Won, chairperson of the association, said that taxi companies in Seoul will show Seoul citizens that they are determined to change and improve the current image of taxi drivers.
