SEOUL, Nov. 19 (Korea Bizwire)The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced yesterday plans to analyze big data indicating the consumption habits of tourists within the six special tourist zones in Seoul.

The move is aimed at activating business activities for small enterprise owners.

The Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation and the Seoul Tourism Organization just inked an MOU this morning, vowing to carry out “joint research on supporting small business vendors and activating tourism.”

The Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation, through data collected in its “neighborhood commercial district analytics service,” will provide city officials with the big data necessary to analyze sales figures belonging to six special tourist zones based on the floating population of tourists and credit card use.

The Seoul Tourism Organization will utilize this information to perform research on the effects of tourism in each of these six areas.

The service provides information on specialized commercial zones to small business operators throughout the city via personal computer applications and mobile apps.

The six special zones include the joint districts of Itaewon, Myeong-dong, Namdaemun, Bukchang-dong, Da-dong and Mugyo-dong along with Dongdaemun Fashion Town, Jongno and Cheonggye, Jamsil, and Gangnam’s MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, and Exhibitions).

The MOU signed between the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation and the Seoul Tourism Organization will allow for joint research into the economic effects that stem from consumption habits of tourists and the floating population of tourists depending on day of week and different seasons.
