SEOUL, Oct. 2 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s government said Wednesday it will roll out more than 500 projects over the next five years to weave artificial intelligence into the nation’s industrial base, part of President Lee Jae-myung’s bid to build what he calls a “super-innovation economy.”

Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan outlined the plan at a strategy session with executives from Samsung Electronics, LG Energy Solution and Nongshim, signaling the scale and breadth of the effort. The initiative is designed to boost manufacturing productivity, cut costs and reduce carbon emissions by embedding AI throughout production processes.

The program builds on 102 projects already under way, with the government targeting more than 500 by 2030, the Ministry of Trade and Industry said.

Samsung will apply AI to raise quality and inspection standards for high-bandwidth memory chips, pushing accuracy rates above 99%, according to officials. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is developing AI-enabled robots for naval vessel maintenance, while Hyundai Motor Group is building an AI-powered robotic arm capable of handling multiple product lines.

The AI integration drive is one of the administration’s flagship economic policies, alongside heavy public investment in semiconductors, batteries and defense exports. Officials say the plan is intended not only to modernize traditional manufacturing but also to position South Korea as a global leader in industrial AI applications.
