SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Commission said said Tuesday it will begin a pet patrol program in which members engage in crime prevention activities as they take their pets on a stroll.
The committee, following positive feedback from a test project conducted in Gangdong District in May and June, began receiving applications from all autonomous districts in the city.
A total of 663 teams from nine autonomous districts applied for the program, among which 248 teams were selected after testing how well the pets listen to their owner’s orders.
The new pet patrols will soon start their patrol activities in their respective districts.
The pet patrol in Gangseo District, for instance, will focus on promoting campaigns on the prevention of dog bite accidents.
Mapo District will focus on educating residents on what amount to violations of the Animal Protection Act. Seodaemun District will focus on patrolling welfare facilities for seniors.
