SEOUL, Jan. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — Shilla Stay Jeju, a popular hotel on Jeju Island, has gained attention for offering free accommodation to travelers stranded due to massive flight cancellations. Over 400 flights were grounded at Jeju International Airport due to severe winds and heavy snowfall.
On January 25, industry sources revealed that Shilla Stay Jeju, on the initiative of Hotel Shilla President Lee Boo-jin, provided free lodging to guests in six rooms on January 23 under its ‘Unexpected Fortune’ promotion.
This promotion, which was suggested by Lee herself in 2015, aims to offer a complimentary one-night stay and breakfast for two to guests who cannot depart due to sudden weather deterioration or natural disasters.
This gesture of goodwill originated when Lee, recognizing the inconvenience faced by guests with canceled flights, personally proposed the idea to Shilla Stay representatives.
Considering the hotel’s proximity to Jeju International Airport, approximately 3.5 kilometers away, it often accommodates guests on their last day of travel. So far, the ‘Unexpected Fortune’ promotion has been applied to over 200 rooms.
A representative from Shilla Stay mentioned, “Although the promotion incurs significant annual costs, we plan to continue it due to its positive aspects. It enhances customer satisfaction and, in the long term, helps in retaining loyal customers.”
