SEOUL, July 6 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Chemicals Co. said Wednesday it has utilized its chemically recycled PET (CR-PET) to create new packaging for food giant Ottogi Co.’s port cutlets and steak sauces.
The company emphasized that it was the first in the local food industry to develop and commercialize food containers using 100 percent CR-PET.
Circular recycling, the process employed by SK Chemicals, involves their chemical recycling technology, which breaks down waste plastics into molecular intermediates capable of being transformed into new products.
Compared to mechanical recycling methods, such as washing or cutting waste plastics into small pieces (flakes) for reuse, circular recycling ensures the preservation of high-quality properties and material safety.
Ottogi’s new meat sauce containers are exclusively crafted from SKYPET CR material.
SK Chemicals and Poonglim P&P, Ottogi’s food packaging subsidiary, signed a memorandum of understanding last year to collaborate on the development of SKYPET CR.
