SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korean builder SK ecoplant Co. said Sunday that the Canadian green hydrogen project Nujio’qonik, in which it holds a stake, has received approval from the Canadian provincial government of Newfoundland and Labrador to utilize state-owned land for wind power generation.
Canadian firm World Energy GH2 Inc., a leading manager of the Nujio’qonik project, participated in the bidding for a wind power site on Crown Land, which is state-owned land in Newfoundland, an island within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
It obtained approval for the site’s usage after successfully passing the final assessment.
The approved land area encompasses 1,077.9 square kilometers, which is about 1.8 times the entire area of Seoul.
SK ecoplant noted that with this approval, the Nujio’qonik project has secured all the wind power sites required, spanning from the current Phase 1 to the third stage of the project.
The approval for the site usage allows for a wind power generation capacity of 4 gigawatts, equivalent to that of three to four nuclear power plants.
SK ecoplant signed an investment deal with World Energy GH2 in May and acquired a 20 percent stake in Phase 1 of the Nujio’qonik project.
The company will be responsible for the project’s basic design, as well as the supply and installation of water electrolysis devices for green hydrogen production.
