SEOUL, Oct. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Innovation Co., South Korea’s leading energy company, said Thursday it has signed a tentative agreement with the government of Fiji for a forest restoration project in the South Pacific island nation.
SK Innovation forged the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the government Wednesday in the Fijian capital of Suva, under which the company will commence the restoration of a mangrove forest on the coast of Vanua Levu island in the country starting in November.
The company said countries in the region face severe impacts from climate change, such as rising sea levels and coastal erosion. Mangrove forest restoration is considered an effective eco-friendly solution for climate change mitigation and biodiversity conservation in the region, according to SK Innovation.
