SEOUL, March 8 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Telecom Co., South Korea’s No. 1 wireless carrier, said Tuesday it will jointly develop and commercialize a self-driving patrol robot in collaboration with its cybersecurity service subsidiary SK shieldus Co. and a robot technology company Neubility by the end of this year.
The self-driving robot will patrol a designated area. If abnormal situations are detected during the patrol, a control center will be able to dispatch security guards.
SK Telecom’s artificial intelligence (AI) video recognition and transmission technology will be installed in Neubility’s remote robot control solution.
SK shieldus will provide its security solutions and sales infrastructure.
Prior to the formal launch of the new robot, SK Telecom has been testing the patrol robot on the campus of Duksung Women’s University since last month.
