SEOUL, May 13 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Telecom Co., South Korea’s top wireless carrier, said Thursday it had signed a memorandum of understanding with domestic robotics platform specialist INTEGRIT to develop an ‘open-type robotics data platform.’
As a way to strengthen connectivity between different intelligent robots, the company plans to develop a platform that can standardize created data and enable mutual interlocking.
The open-type robot platform is expected to clear the way for different intelligent service robots to share space and location information with each other according to common standards.
The open platform would also open the way for the emergence of various robot services, such as using expensive robots in a shared or subscription type without directly purchasing them in large-scale public or commercial facilities.
Thus far, for instance, when ten different robots are installed at a large shopping mall, each robot needed to learn the structure and environment of the shopping mall individually.
However, this open platform would enable them to share the data they learn individually to improve efficiency and to provide various services instantly based on the shared data.
SK Telecom plans to establish the open-type robot platform by combining its know-how such as robot control, AI, cloud, location information and security technology with INTEGRIT’s platform technology.
