JEOLLA, SOUTH KOREA, May 23 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korean biotech company World Costec has invented a naturally-sourced fine dust mask using locally sourced kelp, which can effectively capture fine dust particles while soothing the skin, according to the Nano Bio Research Center.
The Nano Bio Research Center, an organization in South Jeolla Province that invested in World Costec’s research, yesterday announced the development of the new fine dust mask, which the center expects to export and sell through beauty retailers in countries including the U.S., Thailand and Singapore to name a few.
“Though the prospects of exporting to China seemed gloomy, due to the economic impact of the THAAD deployment, we expect to overcome the situation through a collective effort by the local government, the research center and universities,” said Kang Se-won, the head of the South Korean biotech company.
World Costec was among the beneficiaries of a joint project between the Nano Bio Research Center, Nambu University and Gwangju Techno Park that has helped some ten local beauty companies in product development
One local official said, “South Jeolla Province is known for its environment-friendly organic agricultural and marine products. We plan to proactively invest in businesses in the field of organic functional cosmetics.”
The kelp-based fine dust mask is currently awaiting approval from the FDA in the U.S., which is expected to come next month.
