SEOUL, Dec. 17 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on December 16 that the nation’s drone exports reached 23.2 billion won this year, marking a 62% increase from last year.
Drone aircraft dominated exports at 71%, followed by services and software at 16%, and hardware components at 13%. The ministry reported that export destinations have expanded globally, including markets in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan.
“The significance of these achievements is particularly noteworthy as most of the exporting companies are small and medium-sized enterprises that have consistently developed their technology while venturing into new industrial sectors,” the ministry stated.
One notable success story is UVify, a drone light show company that exported over $10 million worth of swarm flight systems to the United States and Canada. The company set a U.S. record in November for the largest drone swarm flight, featuring 5,000 drones.
Nearthlab, another Korean drone company, received the Best Innovation Award at CES 2025, the world’s largest consumer electronics show, for its autonomous unmanned drone station technology.
Kim Young-guk, director general of aviation policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, announced plans to focus on U.S. market entry next year, including hosting drone road shows across America. “We will continue our efforts to expand Korean drone products and services in the global market,” he said.
