SEOUL, Oct. 25 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Kang Jung-ai, has penned a letter of gratitude to RM, the leader of K-pop group BTS, acknowledging his recent 100 million won donation to the veterans’ welfare fund while serving his mandatory military service.

The ministry released the contents of Kang’s letter on October 24, in which she expressed how “RM’s heartfelt contribution will provide significant support to both veterans who have served our country and those currently in uniform protecting our daily lives.”

“I am deeply moved by RM’s thoughtful consideration, which demonstrates his respect for our country and society, and his commitment to creating a better world,” the minister wrote. She added that the ministry would ensure that “the seeds of gratitude planted by RM would blossom into a culture of respect for those in uniform.”

The donation, made to the Patriots and Veterans Affairs Ministry, will be used to improve welfare benefits for various groups including independence activists, war veterans, and their families, as well as active service members in what the ministry terms as MIU (Military in Uniform) – encompassing soldiers, police officers, and firefighters.

RM, who is currently serving in the military band, made the donation announcement through his agency, Big Hit Music, in September. “I am personally witnessing the dedication of many individuals serving our country,” he stated.

“I hope this can provide even a small help to all the heroes who are devoting themselves to our nation right now, and to those who have worked tirelessly for peace.”

The donation coincided with RM’s birthday on September 12, continuing his tradition of charitable giving on his birthday. Last year, he made a donation to the Korean Society for Legal Medicine.

RM began his mandatory military service in December 2023 and is expected to complete his service in June 2025.
