SEOUL, Jul. 7 (Korea Bizwire)University students from seven universities in Korea are increasingly volunteering to work as part-timers between classes at various nearby workplaces to receive university meal plan tickets as wages, and donate them to students who are having financial difficulties.

The volunteering is part of a venture-project that started at Hanyang University. The project was also awarded a governmental acknowledgement at the 2014 Social Venture Competition.

Currently, 500 students from seven universities are participating in the project.

According to Konkuk University, 60 of its students volunteered to work as part-timers and earned 480 meal tickets. They were able to donate those tickets to 48 students in need.

Son Dong-jin, a student in the Department of Physical Education at Konkuk, was the first to introduce the project to his fellow students.

He said that the idea behind the project was quite appealing, as students can be prone to waste what little time they have between classes.

He added that he expects to see the project grow bigger to help more students, as it is still in its infancy.
