SEOUL, Feb. 15 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean cars are showing outstanding performance in the Australian market. As the local economy is the recovery from the pandemic, various marketing strategies have worked in boosting imports.

The Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association reported that a total of 137,547 South Korean automobiles were exported to Australia last year, up by 19.3 percent from the previous year.

Hyundai Motor Co. exported 66,846 cars, up by 11.1 percent from the previous year. Kia Corp. exported 63,981 cars, up by 26.9 percent.

SsangYong Motor Co. exported 2,967 cars, up by a whopping 84.2 percent.

“Just four years after the establishment of our first overseas branch in Australia, we have succeeded in generating a surplus and settling in the market,” a SsangYong Motor official said.

Kia has been sponsoring a tennis tournament in Australia for 21 years, reaping considerable benefits from the marketing venture.

Australia is the third-largest market for South Korean automakers after the U.S. and Canada. More than 1 million cars are sold in Australia every year, 15 percent of which are South Korean cars.
