SEOUL, June 21 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean mobile navigation service T Map will provide location information on about 166,000 fire hydrants across the country.
The National Fire Agency said Monday it had signed an agreement with T Map Mobility Co., the operator of T Map, to strengthen its capability of responding to fires through the provision of road guide services for fire hydrants and other water sources.
T Map Mobility, a mobility unit under wireless carrier, SK Telecom Co, will provide road guide information on the location of the closest fire hydrants through a simple search for T Map users.
Users also can check what types of fire hydrants are installed, including ground floor type, underground floor type, water tower type, water tank type, emergency fire extinguishing equipment type, etc.
The National Fire Agency plans to offer fire safety education and support firefighting training for the employees of T Map Mobility.
“When multiple wildfires occurred in Uljin and Samcheok back in March, village residents defended against the fires using emergency fire extinguishing equipment,” said Lee Heung-kyo, head of the National Fire Agency.
“If the fire hydrant road guide service is developed, it will contribute to greatly enhancing the capability of the initial response to fires.”
