Travel Reservations Focus on Southeast Asia and Japan for Lunar New Year Holiday

SEOUL, Jan. 10 (Korea Bizwire)Travel demand over the Lunar New Year holiday season has been concentrated on Southeast Asia and Japan, a South Korean travel agency said Monday.

Hana Tour analyzed the list of package tour reservations for Jan. 20-24, which showed that some 15,000 people made flight reservations during that period, an increase of 7,015 percent compared to last year’s Lunar New Year holiday.

Sorted by region, a majority of 54 percent were bound for Southeast Asia, followed by Japan (30 percent) and Europe (7 percent).

In Southeast Asia, the most popular destination was Vietnam (36 percent), followed by Thailand (17 percent) and the Philippines (12 percent).

In Japan, travel reservations were evenly distributed among Northern Kyushu, Osaka and Hokkaido.

Sorted by the date of departure, 32 percent of reservations were to depart on Jan. 21, and 26 percent on Jan. 20, the day before Lunar New Year’s Day.
