SEOUL, Jan. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — The Eighth Army of the United States said Wednesday its new commander Lt. Gen. Michael A. Bills will assume the post this week.
Bills, the operations officer of the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) and the allies’ Combined Forces Command, is replacing Lt. Gen. Thomas S. Vandal as the leader of the signature unit of the USFK.
Vandal is returning to the U.S. after four years of service here, as he plans to retire.
“The Eighth Army will hold a change of command at Camp Humphreys, Pyongtaek on Jan. 5 at 10:30 a.m.,” the unit said.
The U.S. Navy also plans to change its representative in South Korea later this month.
Rear Adm. Michael Boyle will succeed Rear Adm. Brad Cooper as commander of the U.S. Naval Forces Korea in a leadership shake-up.
Boyle served as director for international engagement for the Chief of Naval Office (CNO). Cooper will lead the Okinawa-based Task Force 76/Expeditionary Strike Group Seven, which is the 7th Fleet’s amphibious force.
