SEOUL, Mar. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — Smartphone users have been increasingly expanding their use of mobile cash cards on the back of more diversified access to banking services, the central bank said Monday.
According to the Bank of Korea, the daily use of mobile cash cards for deposits and withdrawals averaged 536 cases through February from early December when QR code-based service was introduced in addition to existing near field communication (NFC) systems.
The daily use of mobile cash cards marks a sharp jump from a meager 25 daily cases before the launch of the QR-based banking service for smartphone users, according to the central bank.
Currently, 17 local banks provide a QR-based banking service for smartphone users at some 49,000 ATMs across the country.
Smartphone users can use the QR-based service with their mobile cash cards and mobile banking applications, which also provide the locations of QR-based banking service ATMs.
