Veterans Minister Discusses Support for Ethiopian Veterans of Korean War

SEOUL, Aug. 7 (Korea Bizwire)Veterans Minister Kang Jung-ai discussed ways to expand support for Ethiopian veterans of the 1950-53 Korean War with the country’s defense minister, Aisha Mohammed, her office said Wednesday.

During their meeting in Addis Ababa on Tuesday, Kang expressed gratitude for the country’s participation in the Korean War, and requested cooperation for expanding support for surviving Ethiopian veterans and scholarships for their descendants, according to the veterans ministry.

Mohammed called South Korea an “important country” for Ethiopia and concurred on the need to expand such cooperation, it said.

Kang also visited the Myungsung Christian Medical Center, which provides free medical care to veterans, and met those receiving treatment.

Ethiopia was among the 22 countries that sent troops or medical support to South Korea under the U.N. flag during and after the three-year war against North Korean aggression, which ended in a truce, not a peace treaty.
