SEOUL, Dec. 10 (Korea Bizwire) — More than two thirds of teenagers feel disappointed or lose confidence because of school grades, a civic group said Thursday.
World Without Worries About Private Education conducted a survey of 241 elementary, middle and high school students in which a majority of 166 people (68.9 percent) reported feeling disappointed from losing confidence due to school grades.
This was followed by fear of failure in life (139 people, 57.7 percent), the pain of having to compete with friends (89 people, 36.9 percent), gender discrimination (64 people, 26.6 percent) and dispute with parents (61 people, 25.3 percent).
In addition, almost 90 percent of all respondents said they were stressed out because of school grades and studying.
Asked about the reason for the fierce competition to enter college, 57.7 percent (139 people) pointed to employment advantages based on which college they graduate from, while 53.9 percent (130 people) attributed it to the hierarchy of universities and 44.8 percent (108 people) blamed wage differences based on their grades.
