SEOUL, March 25 (Korea Bizwire)Most South Koreans are feeling stress from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, a survey showed Wednesday.

Nonetheless, respondents shared the view that the government needs to toughen its COVID-19 disinfection guidance.

The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism jointly carried out a survey of 1,000 adults aged over 18 years of age.

At 83.1 percent, the vast majority of the respondents said that they agree with the implementation of tougher disinfection guidance as a way to suppress the pandemic.

In response to a question asking about how well they abide by the disinfection guidance, most of the respondents said that they observe the guidance very well, but others don’t.

When it came to mask wearing, 75.9 percent said they follow the guidance well, but only 37.4 percent said that others do a good job wearing masks.

As for the ban on private gatherings of five or more people, 80.7 percent said that they follow the guidance well, but the share of those who said others follow the guidance well was low at 18.7 percent.

Another 87.3 percent of the respondents replied that they were suffering stress from the pandemic. Among them, 33.7 percent said that they feel a great sense of stress.

The primary reason why respondents felt stress from COVID-19 was that it was uncertain when the pandemic would end (85.7 percent).
