GANGNEUNG, Jul. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — With regard to the occurrence of abandoned dogs during the vacation season every year, the city of Gangneung in Gangwon Province holds an unusual and unique festival to establish a proper culture of companion animal ownership.
The city will hold a so-called “Dog Marathon” on a 5-kilometer course within Gyeongpo Lake Park on August 17.
The lake park is usually closed to pets, and restrictions will only be temporarily eased in some areas of the park for the race.
Meanwhile, organizers will also carry out a campaign to prevent dog abandonment, which is in line with the marathon’s goal of publicizing the issue.
