SEOUL, July 29 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korean television announcer couple Choi Dong-seok and Park Ji-yoon were recently involved in a horrible car accident when the vehicle they were driving collided with a truck driving the wrong way on the highway.
Despite the serious collision, Choi, Park and their children all escaped serious injury, raising curiosity about the Volvo XC90 SUV, the car the celebrity couple drove.
According to the Highway Patrol and the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency on Tuesday, the accident occurred at 8:30 p.m. at the 1.7 kilometer point in the Seoul-bound lane of the Gyeongbu Expressway.
A drunken driver drove a 2.5-ton truck the wrong way on the highway and hit the Volvo XC90 the family of the celebrity couple was in.
Due to the collision, Choi suffered from a cervical vertebral injury, while Park and their children were hospitalized for other minor injuries.
The force of the collision spun the two cars 90 degrees, blocking the entire highway. The Volvo SUV XC90 was greatly damaged due to the collision, with its hood crushed like a paper.
The XC90 is Volvo’s first SUV model, and was launched in 2002 to target the urban SUV trend. It is touted as having overcome the shortcomings of general SUVs, which have a high risk of rolling over due to their higher frame height.
The XC90 is also mounted with Volvo’s City Safety system that is a highly advanced and high-precision emergency brake system.
When it was first released, the XC90 was applauded as the best choice for drivers looking to maximize the safety of their family when on the road.
