SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Korea Bizwire) — With a growing number of South Koreans engaging in so-called ‘untact’ (contactless) transactions, mobile gift certificates or e-coupons are gaining popularity as gifts for the upcoming Chuseok holidays.
Lotte ON, Lotte Shopping Co.’s integrated online shopping website, conducted a survey of 3,000 customers, 50.1 percent of whom picked e-coupons as their preferred form of gift for Chuseok, the Korean equivalent of Thanksgiving.
The shift in preferences is seen as a result of changing consumption patterns and the popularity of online purchases, coupled with the impact of the coronavirus, which has helped untact culture take root in the country.
Roughly one third of the respondents preferred Korean beef, fruit, and other fresh products as gifts, while 21.1 percent preferred health supplements.
As for expensive holiday gift boxes, 31.5 percent wanted gift boxes with various meat products, while for the more affordable gift boxes, 40.1 percent preferred processed food samplers including tuna and ham.
