SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Korea Bizwire) — As the country begins to encourage home treatment for COVID-19, demand for cough medication and fever reducers are on the rise as more people are flocking to drug stores to stock medicine at home.
Dong-A Pharmaceutical Co. reported that stocks of Panpyrin cold medication are rapidly emptying out at wholesale dealers.
Simultaneously, sales of cough drops, liquid pain killers, sore throat relievers and medicine for nasal inflammation have surpassed the yearly average, the company said.
Daewon Pharmaceutical Co. is running its production plant at maximum capacity to meet rising demand for cough drops.
“This month’s sales surpassed last year’s by at least 20 percent,” a company official said.
Ildong Pharmaceutical Co.’s ‘Theraflu’ and Samil Pharmaceutical Co.’s ‘Brufen Syrup’ are also seeing a jump in sales, industry sources said.
